Modern capital, Tehran

Nowadays Tehran is Iran capital. It is a beautiful city with a rich history, as the country itself. It was founded at the crossroads of caravan routes. Tehran got the title of the capital city during the era of the Qajar dynasty in the 18th century. Today it is the largest city in Iran and one of the largest cities in Asia. It is also economic and cultural center of the country.  Most of the modern museums in Iran are here.

          For art lovers main attraction of Tehran is the Golestan Palace Museum, which in the past served as official residence of Qajar royal family. It was built during the reign of Tahmasp I, however, constantly renovated during the XVIII-XIX centuries. The largest contribution to the construction of Golestan Palace were made by Karim Khan Zend, Mohammed Khan Qajar, who made Tehran his capital, and Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, whom his tombstone is now located on the territory of the palace complex.

          Particular attention should be paid to the Museum of Ancient Iran (Archaeological Museum). It displays the artifacts dated 6th millennium BC

Jewelry Museum will not leave anyone indifferent. Rubies, diamonds, emeralds, pearls, aphanites decorate numerous exhibits of the museum starting from the crown and scepter and ending with robes, boxes and swords. Some of the exhibits were the cause of wars.

          Reza Abbasi Museum is considered to be one of the best museums in Tehran. The museum is named in the memory of  Reza Abbasi, one of the greatest artists in the Safavid period. The exposition is divided into 2 parts: the pre-Islamic and Islamic art. The collections of this museum belong to a period from the 6th millennium BC to the early 20th century.

      Another Tehran's famous landmark is Saad Abad Palace complex, built by the last Qajar dynasty in early 20th century.  Reza Shah lived there in 1920s.

There is another palace in Tehran, which is also a museum called Niavaran Palace. The construction began at the time Naser al-Din Shah the last Qajar dynasty and was finished during the shah Pahlavi reign.

An important historical city in the area of modern Tehran, now absorbed by it, is known as "Rey" or Rega in bible there is remaining construction of the Medes and Sassanid Era like the Zoroastrians temple or Atashkade.

          Tehran also has a character of modern cities. Milad Tower is the tallest building in Iran and the sixth tallest in the world. It stands at 435 m (1,427 ft) from base to the tip of the antenna. Differ from location climate Tehran is a green city. The total number of parks in capital exceeds 800.
